The project consisted of the replacement and redevelopment of the 48-inch and 60-inch diameter drinking water supply and distribution pipes, cleaning, disinfecting and installing wall valves inside different cells of the water reserve, and the construction of new valve chambers.

Project challenges

  • Oversized project: 48-inch diameter pipes
  • Installation of cofferdams in the cells using divers in order to install the wall valves in dry conditions
  • Welding of pipeline sections on site
  • Cleaning and disinfection of the cells of the 150 km3 reservoir affected by the work of installing wall valves and sleeves
  • Maintaining the pumping station in operation during the works
