Project description

The project mainly consists of the construction of a new pumping station located on rue des Véroniques in the St-Nicolas sector, water bypass work, the supply and installation of all piping, accessories and equipment, and the construction of a discharge pipe over approximately 850 meters. In addition to this work, the existing pumping station will be demolished, the system and equipment will be tested, commissioned and training delivered, as well as road repairs including curbs, sidewalks, landscaping, etc.

Project challenges

  • Pumping station cast in place, 15 meters deep
  • Installation of a sheet pile box for ground support
  • Installation of a Berlin wall to support the soil
  • Lack of space on the site with the presence of the existing station
  • Traffic and resident management
  • Combination of sheet pile wall and Berlin wall (sand and silt over +/- 7 meters and shale-type rock over the rest of the excavation)
  • Maintaining the service of the existing station with high flow to manage (+/- 475 liters/second). The current pumping station is demolished following the commissioning of the new pumping station
